Twitter for BlackBerry now has deeper integration with BlackBerry Messenger

4747407568 c7a70c531b z 520x245 Twitter for BlackBerry now has deeper integration with BlackBerry Messenger

We realize that not all Twitter users are iOS or Android fans, that's why there's a version of the app for BlackBerry. It hasn't been a fully-integrated experience, but it's been serviceable at best. That changes today with a brand new version of the app that ties Twitter closely to BlackBerry Messenger, the platform's most used functionality.

Here's what Twitter had to say about the update today:

Twitter for BlackBerry makes it easier to share links to web pages directly from the browser. When you tweet a link it will automatically be shortened so it takes up fewer characters. And, you can upload photos to Twitter (pic.twitter.com) right from your device's camera or when writing your Tweets.

Now you can connect your Twitter account with BlackBerry Messenger. This makes it possible to share your latest Tweet as your BBM Personal Message. You can also access your contacts' Twitter accounts right from their BBM profiles.

With BlackBerry embracing Twitter, it will be interesting to see if the number of users and interactions increase on the platform, especially now that you'll be able to find someone's Twitter name on their BBM profile. BlackBerry keeps BBM extremely closed, so the fact that it's opening it up to Twitter means that the two companies are working closely together on the product.

Being able to actually tweet from BBM, which we thought was the case at first, would be an absolutely killer feature, but might take a chunk of out the traffic that takes place on the messaging network now.

Tumblr launches Facebook Timeline, News Feed, and Ticker integration

6781630489 ec360ed84a z 520x245 Tumblr launches Facebook Timeline, News Feed, and Ticker integration

Sharing Tumblr posts on Facebook has been the same as adding any other piece of content until now. Tumblr has just announced that it finally has been accepted as an Open Graph partner and will be publishing feeds to your Timeline, News Feed, and Ticker respectively:

Sharing your posts on Facebook just got a billion times better, with integration into Facebook's Timeline, News Feed, and Ticker.

New options include:

- Toggle "Send to Facebook" when posting.
- Share Replies on your Facebook Timeline.
- Share Likes on your Facebook Timeline.
(They even get lumped together so they're not overwhelming!)

You can find the new options in your blog settings. If your blog is already connected to Facebook, you'll be automatically prompted to upgrade.

Now that Tumblr posts are treated different on your Timeline, your posts wont get lost amongst all of the other junk content that you post. As more apps start using the new Open Graph features from Facebook, people's profiles are easier to read. I'm really enjoying how my Foursquare check-ins are lumped together, much like you see for Tumblr posts below:

Services are starting to say that they're seeing more traffic and engagement thanks to Facebook's new Timeline, which is now mandatory for all pages and profiles on the social network. These new features will guarantee more traffic to Tumblr's over 20 million pages of content.

What are some of your favorite services that haven't started using Open Graph yet? Let us know in the comments

Google Maps adds service alerts for the London Underground

The London Underground is chaotic and delay-prone at the best of times, and with thousands descending on London this summer for the Olympics, it's going to be busier than ever. Fortunately Google's stepped in to ease your Tube-related woes, by adding service alerts for the Underground to Google Maps.

It's all part of Google Maps' live transit updates feature, which launched last June in a handful of cities, mostly in the U.S. From today, London Underground passengers will be able to get similar notifications showing any problems or delays that may affect their journey -- these can be found by selecting an individual station, or planning a journey on the Underground through Google Maps, as you'll see above. Live transit updates are available on the desktop and mobile version of Google Maps, as well as the Android app.

Londoners, be sure to hit the comments and let us know if this helps with the soul-crushing inevitability of Tube delays.

Instagram for Android now live in the Google Play Store

Instagram for Android

We've known for quite some time it was coming but the folks from Instagram never said when, exactly. Now, without any pre-warning Instagram for Android has turned up in the Google Play Store and is available for download, though -- we'd remiss if we didn't mention it does have a few things missing.

Features
:

  • 100% free custom designed filters and borders
  • Lux works its magic by making your photos more vibrant and brings out details in your photos you couldn't see before
  • Instant sharing to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Foursquare (Flickr coming very soon)
  • Interact with friends through giving & receiving likes and comments
  • Works with Android versions 2.2 and above that support OpenGL ES 2
  • Full front & back camera support

We'll get up close and personal with it here in a bit but in the meantime, you can jump past the break for the download link. Regarding the missing items, it looks as though  tilt shift and circle blur are unavailable.

HTC One X or the Samsung Galaxy Nexus?

HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy Nexus

And there's perhaps the No. 1 question stemming from our HTC One X review: Is it better than the Samsung Galaxy Nexus? It's easy enough to spot the similarities. Both have 4.7-inch displays. Both are running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. They're both pretty thin not not heavy for their size. Neither has a micro-SD card.

I've been using the Samsung Galaxy Nexus since November. I've been using the HTC One X for a week. So which one is "better?" Is the One X enough to get me to put down the phone that launched a new generation of Android?

Click on through the suspense-building link to find out.
